Just when I think I’ve heard the strangest plant names imaginable, Jordan manages to find another one.
Our newest addition to the homestead is the Fried Chicken Pepper.
And no, despite what you might think, it doesn’t taste like fried chicken. In fact, the name has nothing to do with the flavor at all. The pepper earned its unusual name because when it ripens, its shape and texture supposedly resemble pieces of fried chicken.
Who comes up with these things? I have no idea. But I have to admit, it caught our attention.
Truth be told, I had never heard of a Fried Chicken Pepper before. But it looked interesting, and if there’s one thing Jordan is going to do, it’s bring home some random plant and say, “Let’s see what happens.”
And honestly, that’s part of the beauty of this journey.
Not everything we grow comes with a grand plan. Sometimes we plant things simply because they’re different. Sometimes curiosity gets the better of us. And every now and then, those unexpected additions become some of our favorites.
So now we’ll wait, water, and watch. I’m especially curious to see these peppers when they’re fully ripe. If they’re anything like the pictures we’ve seen, they’ll definitely be one of the more entertaining plants in the garden.
Around here, we’re always learning, always experimenting, and occasionally asking ourselves, “Who looked at this pepper and thought… fried chicken?”
But that’s part of the fun.
So welcome to the newest member of the 1737 family, the Fried Chicken Pepper. We’ll let y’all know if it really does look like somebody forgot a drumstick hanging on the plant.
Because life at the homestead is never boring.
