Black Turmeric?! Well That’s New… 🖤🌿

One thing I can say about life here at 1737 is that it is never boring.

Just when I think we’ve got enough strange plants growing around here, Jordan comes home with something else that makes me say,

“Sir… what exactly is that?”

This week’s adventure?

Black turmeric.

Now, I knew about turmeric. Everybody has heard of turmeric. But black turmeric? That one was new to me.

And honestly, that’s become pretty normal around here.

Jordan sees some random plant that most people have never heard of, does approximately five minutes of research, and suddenly, we’re making room for it somewhere on the homestead.

Because apparently that’s what we do now.

And I just shake my head and go along for the ride.

Wait… It’s Actually Black?

Y’all, when I say black turmeric is wild, I mean it.

On the outside, it doesn’t look like much. But cut into the rhizome, and you’ll find this deep bluish-black color that almost doesn’t look real.

Of course, Jordan thought it was fascinating.

Me?

I just stood there thinking,

“Well, that’s one more thing I didn’t know existed.”

That’s Kind of What I Love About This Life

People think homesteading is all tomatoes, chickens, and fresh eggs.

And sure, we have plenty of those.

But one of my favorite parts is all the learning that comes with it.

Because just when I think we’ve seen it all, something crazy shows up.

A Blue Christmas pepper.

A Fried Chicken pepper.

A New Zealand Lemonade Tree.

And now…

Black turmeric.

At this point, I don’t even ask questions anymore.

I just assume Jordan has discovered another plant that I didn’t know existed, and we’re all about to learn something new.

And honestly?

I love that.

Because 1737 has never really been about knowing everything.

It’s about staying curious.

It’s about trying new things.

It’s about always growing and always learning.

And apparently, it’s also about collecting plants that make people say,

“Wait…that’s a thing?”

And if you ask me, that’s half the fun.

Cultivating Community. Harvesting Home. 🌿🖤

Some families have traditions.

Some families have heirlooms.

Here at 1737…

We apparently collect weird plants.

And honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. ❤️🌿🖤
