🌳 Our Roots

Every garden has a beginning. This is ours.

Welcome Home

If you had told us a few years ago that a little backyard herb garden would turn into… well… all of this, we probably would have laughed.

Back then, we were just trying to grow a few herbs.

Now?

Now we have fruit trees, vegetables, medicinal plants, chickens who think they run the place, a giant Rottweiler named Samson who’s convinced he’s the supervisor, and more projects than any reasonable people should probably have.

Somewhere along the way, 1737 stopped being just a garden.

It became home.

Not just for us, but for everyone who pulls into the driveway, joins a tour, comes to a class, or follows along online.

Because here’s the thing…

We’re not trying to build the perfect homestead.

We’re simply learning every single day.

Some days, we’re celebrating a basket full of tomatoes.

Some days, we’re wondering why the squash suddenly decided today was the day to give up.

Some days Jordan says something that accidentally turns into the next blog post.

And some days we just stand in the middle of the garden wondering how we got so lucky.

Everything you see here has been built one season at a time. One mistake at a time. One harvest at a time.

We’ve learned how to grow food in an urban backyard.

We’ve learned how to preserve what we grow.

We’ve learned how to raise chickens, experiment with unusual plants, build food forests, and make room for butterflies, bees, and a whole lot of curiosity.

But if we’re honest…

The vegetables were never the real harvest.

The real harvest has always been people.

Watching someone pick their first tomato.

Helping a family discover they really can grow food in a small space.

Seeing visitors leave with a seedling in one hand and a little more confidence in the other.

That’s why we do this.

Whether you’re here because you want to grow your first herb, build your own food forest, learn to preserve your harvest, or you’re simply curious about what an urban homestead looks like, we’re so glad you found us.

Pull up a chair.

Walk through the garden.

Stay awhile.

There’s always something growing around here… and we’re always happy to share it.

Welcome to 1737 Urban Homestead.

We’re cultivating community.

We’re harvesting home.

And there’s always room for one more at the table.
