What’s in Jordan’s Pockets Today?

Just another perfectly normal harvest at 1737 Urban Homestead

There are harvest baskets at 1737 Urban Homestead.

I know this because I have personally seen them.

We own them. They are available. They are perfectly capable of holding vegetables.

Jordan, however, apparently has other plans.

He was out in the garden today doing what Jordan does walking around, checking on things, picking a little of this and a little of that.

And somewhere along the way, his pockets became the harvest basket.

Again.

By the time he came back, those pockets were loaded down with beans and okra fresh from the garden.

Now, if you’ve been sitting on the Front Porch with us for any amount of time, none of this should surprise you. This is the same man who goes for a walk around the homestead and comes back with peppers in his pockets like that’s a completely reasonable way to gather produce.

So honestly, the beans and okra didn’t even make me blink.

It was the egg.

There was an egg in his pocket.

An egg, y’all.

Somewhere between checking the garden and passing Shady Pines, Jordan apparently collected an egg and thought, Yep. Pocket.

No basket.

No container.

No careful little trip back to the house.

Just put the egg in there with everything else and keep moving.

And somehow and I really need us to appreciate this part the egg made it back intact.

At this point, I have stopped asking questions.

Life at 1737

These are the moments I love sharing from the Front Porch because this is what life here actually looks like.

Yes, we’re growing food.

We’re tending gardens, raising chickens, harvesting vegetables, learning, teaching and trying to build something meaningful right here on our little piece of land.

But in between all of that, there’s Jordan walking through the yard with beans and okra hanging out of his pockets and a whole egg tucked in there somewhere like this is perfectly normal behavior.

And maybe around here, it is.

There is something beautiful about food becoming such a natural part of your everyday life that you walk outside, notice something is ready, pick it and keep going.

Even if your chosen harvesting equipment happens to be a pair of pants.

So, if you ever visit 1737 and see perfectly good harvest baskets sitting around unused, don’t worry.

Nothing is wrong with them.

Jordan just has pockets.

And apparently, that’s enough.

Until next time, Loves.

I’ll be on the Front Porch wondering what that man is going to pull out of his pockets next.

P.S. For the record, I do not recommend pocket transportation for eggs. This story could have ended very differently. 😂
