Juneteenth has always been about more than a date on the calendar. It’s a celebration of freedom, resilience, and the generations who came before us, people who knew how to make something out of nothing, grow food from the ground, and build community around the table.
Honestly, that sounds a lot like homesteading.
Here at 1737 Urban Homestead, Juneteenth feels right at home.
For us, celebrating Juneteenth isn’t just about remembering history. It’s about honoring the legacy of self-sufficiency, stewardship, and community that has always been a part of our story. Long before “homesteading” became trendy, our ancestors were growing gardens, preserving food, raising livestock, and passing down knowledge from one generation to the next.
Every tomato picked, every egg gathered, every herb dried, and every meal shared reminds us that these traditions are powerful. They connect us to the past while helping us build something meaningful for the future.
Juneteenth on the homestead is simple, and honestly, that’s how we like it.
Maybe it’s harvesting vegetables together.
Maybe it’s firing up the grill and sharing a meal with family.
Maybe it’s sitting outside under the Louisiana sky, listening to stories, laughing with the people we love, and appreciating how far we’ve come.
Because freedom isn’t just something we remember.
It’s something we nurture.
It’s found in knowing where your food comes from.
It’s found in teaching our children and grandchildren skills that matter.
It’s found in opening our gates and sharing what we’ve learned with others.
And it’s found in community.
At 1737, that’s what we’re cultivating every day.
Not perfection.
Not acres and acres of land.
Just a little piece of home where people can gather, learn, and grow together.
As we celebrate Juneteenth, we’re grateful for those who paved the way, grateful for the blessings we’ve been given, and grateful for the opportunity to continue planting seeds both in the soil and in the lives around us.
Because the harvest is bigger than us.
And the legacy we’re building isn’t just for today.
It’s for generations to come.
Happy Juneteenth from our family to yours. ❤️💛💚🖤
