Hey y’all,
Let me tell you, life on the homestead stays interesting. A big reason for that is the crew we’ve got clucking around out back. Our hens are more than just egg layers; they’ve become part of the family. And like any good Southern family, they’ve all got big personalities… and names to match. Well, most of them.
So let me formally introduce you to the girls who rule the roost at 1737 Urban Homestead.
First up, there’s Socks. Now, this girl walks like she owns the joint—and to be fair, she kind of does. She’s bold, curious, and always the first one to come see what’s going on when we step outside. She’s got these little feathered feet that look like she’s wearing ankle socks, and that’s how she got her name. She’s a whole vibe.

Next, meet Gracie. She’s a sweetheart with a calm spirit. If Socks is the bossy one, Gracie is her laid-back best friend who balances her out. She’ll quietly sneak up beside you and sit for a while like she’s been waiting on you all day. She’s the definition of “graceful,” so her name just felt right.

Then there’s Sylvia. She’s a little sassier than the rest. She struts with purpose and doesn’t have time for foolishness. I always say she gives “auntie energy.” She’ll love you with a soft peck. She also isn’t afraid to tell you when you’re doing too much.

And now for our honorary trio: Chicken, Duck, and Goose.

I know what you’re thinking but no, they’re all chickens. The names just stuck one day. We were outside cracking jokes. We were trying to keep up with who was who. It started as a laugh, but now I can’t imagine calling them anything else. Honestly, it fits. Goose is the dramatic one, Duck is oddly quiet, and Chicken… well, she’s just doing her best to keep the peace.
That leaves us with two beautiful, big-personality hens who are still nameless. They’ve been holding their own without official titles, but it’s time we give them the recognition they deserve.

So here’s where I need your help—what should we name them?
Drop your suggestions in the comments, on our socials, or send a little note through the website. We love names that feel like home—something with charm, maybe even a little Southern flair. Think old-school aunties, sweet tea on the porch, or something inspired by the garden. Bonus points if the names are funny, elegant, or both.
Until then, the girls will keep ruling the yard, pecking for bugs, and keeping us smiling from sunup to sundown.
From our flock to yours,
