Hey Loves,
There’s just something about seed starting season that never gets old.
Every year, right around this time, we find ourselves back at the table with trays, soil, seeds, and a whole lot of intention. Spring at 1737 doesn’t begin on a calendar; it begins the moment that first seed goes into the soil.
This is where the magic starts.
Starting With Purpose
Before we plant anything, we take a step back and really think about what this season needs to look like. What did well last year? What fed us the most? What do we want to grow more of this time around?
Our garden isn’t about perfection or pretty rows. It’s about purpose. It’s about growing food that nourishes us, supports our homestead, and aligns with the way we want to live slow, intentional, and rooted.
Every seed we start has meaning.
Choosing Our Seeds
For spring 2026, we focused on varieties that make sense for our space and our lifestyle. Heirloom seeds, tried-and-true favorites, and a few new ones we’re excited to experiment with.
Tomatoes, peppers, herbs, greens, the staples that always find their way into our kitchen. Some seeds were saved from past seasons, others carefully chosen from growers we trust. There’s something powerful about planting seeds that carry history and potential all at once.
Our Seed Starting Process
We keep things simple around here:
- Clean trays with good drainage
- Quality seed-starting soil
- Bottom watering for strong roots
- Warmth and light to help them thrive
No rushing. No forcing. Just patience and consistency.
Watching those tiny green sprouts break through the soil never gets old. It’s a reminder that growth happens quietly at first — and then all at once.
Why We Start Seeds Early
Starting seeds indoors gives us a head start on the season and allows us to grow what we actually want to eat. It also gives us more control over what goes into our food and how it’s grown.
But honestly? It’s deeper than that.
Seed starting is grounding. It slows you down. It reminds you to trust the process. To show up, do the work, and let nature handle the rest.
From Soil to Soul
This is one of my favorite parts of the year.
The planning.
The planting.
The promise of what’s to come.
Every seed planted is a reminder that growth is coming, even when you can’t see it yet.
Here’s to a beautiful spring season, full of intention, nourishment, and new beginnings.
From soil to soul,
